Writing is Cool!
In the computer lab today, we worked on publishing our stories. In the past, we worked on revising our leads, and to work on Show not Tell. Show not Tell is when to not tell something. Like:
Tell: I was so happy. I was running to the soccer game to see the trophy.
Show: I was jumping for joy. I was dashing to the soccer game to see the trophy in it's display case.
I'll show you another example:
Tell: I am so excited to see the brownies and to eat them. When my mom passed out the brownies, it was so delicious.
Show: I was so excited that I was clapping and kept yelling, "Come on Mom! Hurry up!" When my mom was done cooking, she passed a brownie to each of us. When I tasted it, it was really delicious.
Now you know what show not tell is. Leads are the first few sentences that grab your reader into the story.
