Our School

Our school is called Cantiague Elementary School. The Home of the Bucket Fillers! Our school opened on 1962. That is 51 years ago! That's a long way back. Our school is so cool and amazing, in our opinion. Some reasons why we like Cantiague so much:

  1. I love that everyone is so kind.
  2. I love that teaching is fun.
  3. I love that there are free periods.
  4. I love that the school is big.
  5. I love that there is a lot of technology.
That is why we love Cantiague!!!!!

A Dream Lives On

A Dream Lives On

A few days ago, our class read a TFK magazine. TFK means Time for Kids. The title of the magazine is “A Dream Lives On.” If you are interested about the story 50 years ago, when Martin Luther King Jr. was alive, gave his speech, I HAVE A DREAM:

On August 28, 1963, it was a very hot and annoying day for the people. Back then, there was segregation. Blacks and whites were not allowed to sit together, use the same schools, even not drink from the same water fountain! When Martin Luther King Jr. gave his speech, a woman from the audience interrupted him by shouting, “Tell them about your dream, Martin! Tell them about your dream!” So Martin pushed his speech aside, and gave a new speech by his heart. “I have a dream, that people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by their character,” Everybody enjoyed his speech. Therefore, there was a dream by Martin Luther King Jr., I HAVE A DREAM.

When the “dream speech” was finished, everybody loved his speech. “I Have a Dream” is one of the Top 5 speeches ever spoken in the world.

Update 1 – 9/25/13
In math, we so far learned about rounding numbers, comparing numbers, and place value. We learned in place value that how much each number is worth from the millions down. In rounding numbers, we learned how to round numbers to the nearest thousand, hundred, and ten. In comparing numbers, we learned the signs, < less than, > greater than, = and equal to. For example:
68____79? If you look at the tens place for both of them, then 7 is greater than 6(7>6). So, 68 is less than 79(68<79).

 Geography 's Red Carpet
Update 1 – 9/25/13
In social studies, we’ve been learning about geography.
Geography: study of the earth’s surface. Including continents, oceans, cities, and  countries.
We’ve been learning about oceans, and we learned a trick from the teachers: People Always Invite Aliens. P in the word People stands for Pacific, A stands for Atlantic, I stands for Indian, and A stands for Arctic. In landforms, we we’re learning about what peninsulas, isthmuses, plains, and other landforms mean.
Peninsula: A body of land that is covered with water on three sides.
We’ve been also learning about latitude and longitude. Longitude measures the distance east to west. Latitude measures the distance north to south.
