Long Island Express

The Levermans Class
Post 9 – 11/24/2013
Long Island Express

Go on the Long Island Express! We took a tour of Long Island and why YOU should live there. One reason you should go there because of the great beaches and all the wavy waves. Another reason you should go there because of the land forms. The third reason you should go there because you should go to Manhattan and see all the tall building. And the bright sights at night. That's just some of the spots you should go to Long Island.

Writing is Cool!

The Levermans Class
Post 8 – 10/10/2013
Writing is Cool!

In the computer lab today, we worked on publishing our stories. In the past, we worked on revising our leads, and to work on Show not Tell. Show not Tell is when to not tell something. Like:

Tell: I was so happy. I was running to the soccer game to see the trophy.
Show: I was jumping for joy. I was dashing to the soccer game to see the trophy in it's display case.

I'll show you another example:

Tell: I am so excited to see the brownies and to eat them. When my mom passed out the brownies, it was so delicious.
Show: I was so excited that I was clapping and kept yelling, "Come on Mom! Hurry up!" When my mom was done cooking, she passed a brownie to each of us. When I tasted it, it was really delicious.

Now you know what show not tell is. Leads are the first few sentences that grab your reader into the story.

The Blob

The Levermans Class
Post 7 – 10/07/2013
The Blob

SECTION 1 - I'm Kicked Out
"What?!" I screamed. "Yeah," Canti said. "Really?! You kicked me out?" He nodded. "Come on! I'm a good boy there!" I yelled. Wait, my name is Lune Shile. My mother, Roselina, burst into my room. "What's going on here?" she yelled. I started crying. I never do that all the time, but now I did. "Canti kicked me out of camp because he told the manager that I was being mean to others!" "Really?" She turned to Canti. "Is this true?" Canti snickered. "Yes." "Well, I'm disappointed of you. You're grounded for 2 weeks not to go in Lune's room. Okay?" said Roselina. "But mom..." "No buts! Grounded is grounded." Canti stomped out of my room. When he was about to close the door, he said, "See you later for your blob."

SECTION 2 - My First Blob
It was morning, and my day didn't start normal as any other day. First, when I opened my eyes, I saw a fake vomit on my face. I screamed and Roselina came bursting in my room. "What now, Lune?" "Canti put a fake vomit on my face." I replied shaking. "Well," Roselina put her hand around me. "I mean, it's still fake. It doesn't effect you that much." "I know, but I hate fake vomits. They're so disgusting and weird and just blegh." I said. "Come on, Lune. Let's get downstairs for breakfast. French toast." she said with a smile on her face. I grinned and went downstairs. Canti said to me, "I guess that wasn't your blob. The next blob will be more effective."

SECTION 3 - How Could It Get Any Worse?
This day turned out to be worse than any day I ever lived in my life. I was going down the stairs and Canti put mustard on the stairs! OMG. I can't believe it. I am gone. So I slipped on the stairs and I was there, booming down the stairs. "YAAAH!" I seriously yelled. When I was at the bottom of the stairs and groaned and saw that there was mustard all over me. I stomped over to Canti's room and he was still sleeping. I stopped stomping, and I started tip-toeing. I tip-toed all the way to his favorite baseball card, and I threw it outside the window, and I burst outside to the living room! I checked where the baseball card was. It sank to the bottom of the house, and it went into the dumpster. JACKPOT! The garbage truck came and took the dumpster's trash into the back of the truck. JACKPOT II! Well, I guess that part of "The Blob" didn't effect me at ALL. Then, I heard Canti yell to Roselina, "Where's my baseball card. Rose?!" Roselina's voice was much quieter than Canti's. "I don't know, you must have misplaced it. Now, come down. Egg toast for breakfast." "I WILL NOT COME DOWN (until I get my baseball card back)!" I snickered, then highly snickered, then laughed, then I did something that will get me in BIG trouble. I burst out laughing, tears rolling down my face. Rolling over on the backyard. I must have guessed that Canti had heard me, because he came bursting out to where I was. "What is all this about?" he screamed. "I threw your baseball card in your dumpster." "What?! Well, that's a good blob. I'll get back for you."

SECTION 4 - Really?
Wow. This was the worst day of my life. I am serious. So serious. I am not lying. I actually had 2 blobs today! My first blob was when I woke up and my room was a mess! Canti must have done that. Then, Roselina opened the door and said, "Good morning-" she stopped right there. She moved her lips but she didn't speak. "Lune! Clean this mess right now!" she yelled in my face. Great. I mean, she never does that. I mean never. "But, mom... Canti made this mess." I said. "CANTI!" she yelled. Canti came bursting in my room. "What?!" he screamed in my mother's face. "You clean this mess right now!" "But I didn't make this mess!" he said. Roselina turned to ME. "YOU CLEAN THIS MESS RIGHT NOW!" she seriously yelled and screamed combined at me. "Fine!" I yelled. It took me 2 hours to clean my whole room. After I was done, Canti came in and said, "Come down for breakfast. Anyways, that was your blob of the day!"

Being a Bucket Filler

The Levermans Class
Post 5 – 10/03/2013
Being a Bucket Filler

Our school is Cantiague Elementary School and we have the Super Six and follow it always. Wait a second, bucket fillers are people who are very nice and kind. Bucket dippers are different. They are mean, and the exact opposite of bucket fillers. But always remember the Golden Rule: Treat others how you would like to be treated. The Super Six is to be kind, respectful, positive, safe, responsible, and be a SUPERSTAR! Remember to always follow the awesome, cool, cool, Super Six at Cantiague Elementary School. Also, make new friends whenever you can and always comfort other people who just came here. Finally, try to include everybody even though they're younger or older, and also, even when they're your enemies. Happy bucket filling!

Our School

Our school is called Cantiague Elementary School. The Home of the Bucket Fillers! Our school opened on 1962. That is 51 years ago! That's a long way back. Our school is so cool and amazing, in our opinion. Some reasons why we like Cantiague so much:

  1. I love that everyone is so kind.
  2. I love that teaching is fun.
  3. I love that there are free periods.
  4. I love that the school is big.
  5. I love that there is a lot of technology.
That is why we love Cantiague!!!!!

A Dream Lives On

The Levermans Class
Post 1 – 9/25/2013
A Dream Lives On

A few days ago, our class read a TFK magazine. TFK means Time for Kids. The title of the magazine is “A Dream Lives On.” If you are interested about the story 50 years ago, when Martin Luther King Jr. was alive, gave his speech, I HAVE A DREAM:

On August 28, 1963, it was a very hot and annoying day for the people. Back then, there was segregation. Blacks and whites were not allowed to sit together, use the same schools, even not drink from the same water fountain! When Martin Luther King Jr. gave his speech, a woman from the audience interrupted him by shouting, “Tell them about your dream, Martin! Tell them about your dream!” So Martin pushed his speech aside, and gave a new speech by his heart. “I have a dream, that people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by their character,” Everybody enjoyed his speech. Therefore, there was a dream by Martin Luther King Jr., I HAVE A DREAM.

When the “dream speech” was finished, everybody loved his speech. “I Have a Dream” is one of the Top 5 speeches ever spoken in the world.

Update 1 – 9/25/13
In math, we so far learned about rounding numbers, comparing numbers, and place value. We learned in place value that how much each number is worth from the millions down. In rounding numbers, we learned how to round numbers to the nearest thousand, hundred, and ten. In comparing numbers, we learned the signs, < less than, > greater than, = and equal to. For example:
68____79? If you look at the tens place for both of them, then 7 is greater than 6(7>6). So, 68 is less than 79(68<79).

 Geography 's Red Carpet
Update 1 – 9/25/13
In social studies, we’ve been learning about geography.
Geography: study of the earth’s surface. Including continents, oceans, cities, and  countries.
We’ve been learning about oceans, and we learned a trick from the teachers: People Always Invite Aliens. P in the word People stands for Pacific, A stands for Atlantic, I stands for Indian, and A stands for Arctic. In landforms, we we’re learning about what peninsulas, isthmuses, plains, and other landforms mean.
Peninsula: A body of land that is covered with water on three sides.
We’ve been also learning about latitude and longitude. Longitude measures the distance east to west. Latitude measures the distance north to south.
